Mental illness is defined as a mental, behavioral, or emotional disorder that ranges from no life impairment, to severe life impairment for a certain period of time. One in nine adults have mental illness and only about half of those suffering, seek out treatment. Half of the adolescent population suffers from a mental disorder.
In recent years the stigmatism surrounding care for mental illness has improved. But how many people are out there walking among us, suffering from undiagnosed and untreated mental illness? When your life and relationships are suffering because of uncontrollable feelings and behaviors, wouldn’t seeking help improve your life? Why suffer any longer when you can get the help you need? Mental healthcare providers know that seeking help is scary, but suffering in silence is even more scary.
